With great sorrow we announce the death of Dr. Harriet Gordon Machtiger. She was the founder of our Pittsburgh Jungian community from 1974 to 2000, giving generously of herself to one and all.

DR. HARRIET GORDON MACHTIGER
Dr. Harriet Gordon Machtiger died on Monday, March 9 at her home in Boynton Beach, Florida. She was a noted Jungian psychoanalyst in Pittsburgh, PA. Born July 27, 1927, she was educated at Brooklyn College and later received her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of London, Dr. Machtiger completed her training at the British Association of Psychotherapists and practiced as Jungian analyst and licensed psychologist in Pittsburgh from 1974 - 2000. She was the founder (with her husband Sidney Machtiger) and first President of the C.G. Jung Educational Center of Pittsburgh, and was later involved in establishing the Pittsburgh Jung Society, and a member of the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts. A graveside service was held at Wellwood Cemetery in Pinelawn, NY on March 12 ~ the birthday of her husband, Sidney Machtiger, who passed away just after their 48th anniversary in 1996.

Her death is a great loss to her family and many friends. She is survived by three children, Avram, Marcia, and Bennett; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Elaine and Irene.
